WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) is a NASA space telescope launched in December 2009 with the primary mission of surveying the entire sky in infrared wavelengths. The mission was completed in 2011, during which WISE mapped the entire sky twice, discovering over 33,000 new asteroids, hundreds of near-Earth objects, and the largest known structure in the universe, among other discoveries. WISE was decommissioned in 2011 after completing its primary mission, but a subsequent extended mission called NEOWISE (Near-Earth Object WISE) was launched in 2013 to continue searching for near-Earth objects and asteroids.
